About Horror books
There is a vague feeling that the horror books in literature is not developing as successfully now as in cinema. There are few true masters to scare the hell out of with the help of text. And when you want to turn to the classics, you understand that in the old gothic stories, rather, a cut of the touching naive experiences of a person who is not even completely sure of the supernatural nature of what is happening. They are beautiful, these stories, but are we so afraid of them?
However, King’s stories at any age leave an indelible mark. A corpse behind the railroad, brr … and after all, “The Body” is not even a horror film. Yes, and the same slightly naive horrors of Lovecraft are still deeply hurt, although he does not try to describe the monsters that torment his own fantasy.
But it’s easy to mention a couple of famous, talented authors! Almost everyone knows Howard Lovecraft and Stephen King. What have you heard about Mark Edwards, Joe Hill, Gerald Brom or Cullen Bunn? Or the artist Johan Egerkrans. We’ve selected books ranging from the zombie apocalypse to the mystical unnameable that do the job of scaring the hell out of you equally well.
In the cinema, we are afraid of terrible pictures, music forcing the atmosphere, vague images born of the imagination of the screenwriter and director, hopelessness and suffering. The book is completely different – it reveals completely different fears, our own. So… read strictly at night!
